Calcium - Urine

Ordering information:

Elevated 24 hour urine calcium may occur due to primary hyperparathyroidism. Low 24 hour urine calcium, where serum calcium is high may be due to familial hypocalciuric hypercalcaemia (FHH). Level is influenced by dietary calcium and supplements. Used in conjunction with the Hammersmith Urine calcium creatinine clearance ratio (not provided).

With restricted Calcium diet, collect specimens for Calcium measurement on days 5 & 6.

If a plain bottle is received, post collection acidifiction is required. Add 50 ml of HCl, mix well, and allow to sit for 30 minutes, then mix again before removing aliquot.
