Respiratory panel (PCR)

For all respiratory specimens.

This panel for Influenza A and B, Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), Parainfluenza types 1,2,3, , Picornavirus and Adenovirus.

Bordetella pertussus can also be performed on request.

Latex Agglutination

Faeces for Rotavirus and Adenovirus.

Electron Microscopy

Poxvirus - vesicle fluid, scrapings and crusts.

Molluscum contagiosum - vesicle fluid

Astrovirus - faecs (not frozen)

PCR

Replaces imunofluorescence and cell culture for other viral agents. Can be used to detect other infectious agents.

  • Adenovirus, Coronavirus, CMV, Enterovirus (enterovirus, coxsackievirus and poliovirus genera), EBV, Equine morbillivirus (Hendra virus), Flavivirus (MVE, Dengue and Kunjin virus, Japanese Encephalitis), Hantavirus, Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, G, HSV, HH6 virus, HH8 virus, HIV, Influenza virus, measles, norovirus,  parvovirus B19, polyomavirus (BK and JC viruses), poxvirus , RSV, Rubella, SARS-associated coronavirus, VZV
  • Bordetella pertussis, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Chlamydia psittaci , Chlamydia trachomatis, Neiserria gonorrhoeae, Legionella, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Toxoplasma
