Processing Instructions

During Business Hours: all Fresh Tissue for histopathology must be brought to the attention of an Anatomical Pathologist in the first instance. After Hours: All Fresh Tissue specimens (with the exception of “products of conception” – including placenta)  the on-call Pathologist must be contacted for further instructions. Products of conception including placenta can be stored in the fridge until the next working day.

Histopathology

Ordering information:

Cerner orderable: Histology Specimen(s).

Tissue soley for routine Histopathology: formalin (container size to be approriate to the tissue size).

Frozen sections or tissue that needs to be shared with other tests such as microbiological tests or flow cytometry must be sent fresh. Please keep fresh specimens regfigerated.

Urgent biopsies must be marked on the order as well as being discussed with an Aantomical Pathologist. Ext 9895 3477.

Transport Instructions:

Fresh specimens must be stored in the fridge and not at room temperature.
