Laboratory Notes:

Anti Endomysial abs are no longer performed. Although the test is very specific it has some drawbacks - EMA reduce rapidly where the patient has commenced a gluten free diet ( whilst Trans Glutaminase antibodies decrease at a much slower rate ). EMA testing is by IF which can be subjective.

EMA may have some value as a test for Gluten free diet compliance.
