Pathology

Frozen section should be booked with a minimum of 48 hours notice to the Anatomical Pathology laboratory. 9895 3477.

Cerner orderable: Frozen section.

Subsequesnt additional tissue for the same patient either for frozen section or routine histology, must be an "Add on" written request on a paper request form.  Label additional specimens with a Bradma only.

Frozen section services are available from Monday to Friday 8.00- 5.00pm.

Out of hours requests should be directed to the on-call Pathologist.

Consultation with a pathologist is required during booking  for Maroondah Frozen Sections. For operational requirements, every effort should be made for these cases to be first on the Theatre list. Cancellation of bookings must be communicated ASAP with Anatomical Pathology 9895 3477.

There is currently no provision for onsite Frozen Sections at other Eastern Health sites

Please call the laboratory on extension 53477 at the time when sending the tissue. The fresh specimen for frozen section should be labelled with pink frozen section sticker (kept in theatre) and promtly delivered to CSR, level 4 Pathology and inform them it is Urgent Frozen section
