Faecal Viral PCR testing includes Norovirus, Adenovirus and Rotavirus and can be done on the same specimen as Faeces - Microscopy and Culture. 

Please order Faecal Viral PCR test separately in EMR.

Notes:

Please always include relevant clinical history.

Fresh specimens are essential - rectal swabs are not suitable.

Faecal viral PCR is performed routinely on patients less than 5 years of age.

Norovirus PCR- Tested in gastro outbreaks. Please contact Infection Control.

Store samples at 4oC.
