Respiratory Virus PCR - Extended

The AusDiagnostics Respiratory Pathogen Multiplex tests for : Influenza A virus, Influenza B virus, Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Rhinovirus/Enterovirus, Parainfluenza virus 1,2,3,4, Adenovirus, Human Metapneumovirus, Bordetella spp, SARS-CoV-2.

SPECIMEN REQUIREMENTS

Collect a combined nose & throat swab, or a nasopharyngeal swab.

Swabs MUST be collected using UTM Viral transport media (green top or red top tubes)

EMR orders MUST specify collection site

Sputum, Bronchial Washings, Bronchoalveolar Lavages are referred to an external laboratory for testing

Collection Instructions:

Cormbined nose/throat or nasopharyngeal swabs are tested in-house. Other respiratory samples (eh bronchoalveolar lavages or washes) are referred to a reference laboatory for testing

Notes:

Test requires approval from the Clinical Microbiologist. As of Feb 2023 testing is performed in-house.
