GAAD is a calculation made after assaying sample for AFP and PIVKA II (Prothrombin Induced by Vitamin K deficiency or Antagonist, also known as des-γ-carboxy-prothrombin), and using patient's age and gender in a proprietary equation. AFP must be ordered with GAAD, and will also be reported separately. GAAD may be a useful marker of early hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with various causes of cirrhosis.
Must be requested by Gastroenterology Team.
