Recent changes for Procalcitonin
All PCT requests must be discussed with the Chemical Pathologist upon receipt in lab, regardless of time of day or day of week. If urgent/Taxi requiring is determined, result must be phoned to the clinician upon receipt - High Risk Result.
All Procalcitonin Tests must be discussed with the (on call) Chemical Pathologist prior to ordering. Testing will not proceed without Chemical Pathologist Approval.
Identify urgency of test, and clinical information on request slip to expedite turn-around.
Pathology Staff only: All PCT requests must be discussed with the Chemical Pathologist before requested. If this is not done, please contact the requesting doctor/ unit and advise them that testing will not go ahead until approval has been given, and invite them to contact the Chemical Pathologist directly (through Switch). If urgent/Taxi requiring is determined, result must be phoned to the clinician upon receipt - High Risk Result.
