Faecal Alpha 1 Antitrypsin

 Please consult Chemical Pathologist before requesting the test.

This test is for Protein Loosing enteropathy investigation.

Preferred sample type: Random faecal collection. Serum (blood) sample only required is A1AT deficiency is suspected.

A timed specimen collection (72 h) may be collected for the calculation of a quantitative plasma loss but is not routinely done. Please indicate start time/date and finish time/date.

Note false elevations occur with diarrhoea, GI blood loss. False reduction occur when pH <3.5 (e.g. from gastric acid hypersecretion).
