For investigation of anaphylaxsis send both acute (e.g. initial ED bloods) and follow up (e.g. after clinical improvement) samples if possible.

Collection Instructions:

Stable 48 hours refrigerated,  transport frozen if unable to ensure delivery of sample to the Alfred within 48 hours of collection. .

Notes:

Increased level of tryptase can normally be detected up to 3 to 6 hours after the anaphylactic reaction. Levels return to normal within 12-14 hours after release.
