PCR = Polymerase Chain Reaction

 

 

All PCR tests require separate tubes.

 

 

Avoid contamination of samples for PCR analysis.

 

 

Cytomegalovirus - 10 mL EDTA blood, tissue, CSF, saliva swab

 

 

Enterovirus - CSF

Hepatitis C & G - 10 mL plain blood

Herpes Simplex - 10 mL EDTA blood, tissue, CSF, swab

HIV (DNA) - 10 mL EDTA or ACD blood; transport at room temperature.

Note: this test is used to detect recent infection with HIV. It is not the same as the Viral Load Test.

Meningococcus - 10 mL EDTA blood

M. tuberculosis - Fluids, tissues from sterile sites

Polyomavirus (JC & BK) - CSF, urine

Varicella Zoster - 10 mL EDTA blood, tissue, CSF, swab
