This test has limited clinical utility. Suggest urine 5-HIAA or Chromogranin A for the investigation of carcinoid syndrome.
Also can be done on 24 Hrs urine collection (Acidified collection pH <4).
Special dietry reqirment: avoid the following foods for 1 day prior to and during collection:
Fruits: Bananas, Pineapple, Grapes,Figs, Kiwifruit, Plums
Vegetables: Tomatoes, Avocadoes, Eggplant
Nuts: All especially walnuts
Other: Chocolate
