Urate - Blood

Elevated Urate can form part of the Tumour Lysis Syndrome and be life threatening.

If the patient has been given rasburicase within the last four days, the sample must be collected into a heparinised tube on Ice and sent immediately to the laboratory. (Rasburicase (Elitek): a novel agent for tumor lysis syndrome - PMC (nih.gov)).

Urate is neither sensitive nor specific for gout, but may be helpful in the management and monitoring of chronic gout.
