Mycoplasma (Genital)

Ordering information:

Can be performed on urine and genital swabs.

Culture will detect M.hominis. For M.genitalium, PCR is required.

Note: if Mycoplasma genitalium PCR is required a separate dry swab must be collected, or at least 5mL urine received. Test cannot be performed on gel or charcoal swabs. 

In EMR, order urine or genital swab culture (select Mycoplasma species in "Suspected Pathogens" field or mention ?Mycoplasma in the "order comment" for culture, or specify M.genitalium PCR if required ). If PCR testing is required an additional separate dry swab must be collected
