Collection & Request Instructions

0.1 mL clear cerebrospinal fluid and a plain blood specimen (serum) collected at the same time.

If requested on CSF, will not be performed if CJD/protein 14-3-3 positive. Do not send until CJD/14-3-3 result received as negative.

Notes

In several diseases of the central nervous system, there a quantitative and qualitative alterations in immunoglobulins. A relative increase in IgG in CSF, compared with serum, and the existence of oligoclonal bands in CSF, not present in serum at that time, provide strong evidence for the fiagnossi of multiple sclerosis.
