Phenotyping is only indicated when the total alpha 1 anti-trypsin is low.

“Alpha-1- antitrypsin phenotype will be performed when Alpha-1- antitrypsin genotype is requested, as these have excellent correlation. If genotype is the preferred test, please contact the Chemical Pathologist.”
