Calculation based on Creatinine, age, gender (CKD-EPI). Does not have a term for ethnicity.
Note: eGFR calculation not available for people aged <18 years. 24 hour creatinie clearance recommended instead.
Note: For those on gender affirming hormone therapy, suggest using affirmed gender, and if differnet from recorded (administrative) gender, manually calculating.
This test is a calculated value. It is automatically reported whenever a sample is submitted for Creatinine assessment.
An eGFR < 60 strongly suggests chronic kidney disease. Refer to www.kidney.org.au for more information.
Acute Kidney Injury is indicated by velocity and magnitude of cahnge of creatinine or eGFR. See KI_SuppCover_2.1.indd (kdigo.org) for further information.
For detection of chronic kidney disease both the eGFR and UACR (urine albumin creatinine ratio) needs to be assessed. Then refer to "Chronic kidney disease (CKD) management in general practice" at the above website (CKD Management handbook | Kidney Health Australia).
