Recent changes for CMV Viral Load
This test cannot be performed on the same specimen as for an FBE. A separate EDTA tube is required.
<400 copies per ml can be detected but will be reported without specific quantity

This test can be performed on same sample as other Micro PCR tests (eg EBV PCR, polyomavirus viral load). If unsure, contact Microbiology lab before organising any recollections
CMV Viral Load will be performed on Transplant and Oncology patients.
A dedicated 1 x 4mL EDTA blood tube is required.
Transport to the laboratory at room temperature.
Please note that CMV Viral Load can only be performed on a sample tube which has NOT been used for other testing. For this reason, this test cannot be added to previously collected samples.
This is a quantitative test for the detection of Cytomegalovirus in blood by PCR.
