Proinsulin

Chemical Pathologist approval is required.

Proinsulin is the precursor peptide from which insulin is formed. Proinsulinomas are very rare tumours which secrete proinsulin, causing spontaneous hypoglycaemia. Results should be interpreted with a paired glucose and insulin result. Proinsulin will only be measured where there is biochemical evidence of hypoglycaemia at the time of collection.
