Transport specimen at Room Temperature to lab

Testing is performed by Microbiological Diagnostic Unit at Melbourne University.Testing is peformed Monday, Wednesday & Friday, unless otherwise instructed by DHS. The specimen  must reach MDU by 11.00 on these days.

Notes:

 

1. Before the request can be processed, the requesting doctor MUST notify the Department of Health of a potential case of Meningococcal Disease. DHS can be contacted on 1300 651 160, after hours 1300 790 733

2. The staff member receiving the request MUST notify the Microbiology lab at Box Hill. This should be done during normal laboratory hours. If the request is received out of hours, arrange for microbiology to be notified the next day.

3. The specimen required is the first EDTA tube collected on the patient.
